after listening to piper high school radio play them during metal hour, i first got to see slipknot live when they opened for coal chamber at the chili pepper in fort lauderdale october 3 1999. oh man, such a great show and mom was ok with letting me go. and the chili pepper,
this was before corey did his stone sour solo whiney project, but after mate.feed. kill.repeat. this was taken right about at the height of it for me, when i got a video cam for christmas and decided to make a FANATIC video for the band on mtv. me, brace faced and beaming with inspiration in each cut with a different slipknot tshirt.
holy crap, i had an autographed shirt from after their january show when kittie and wilhaven opened up. (wilhaven who?) it was an anticlimactic moment to meet the band without their masks on. i started thinking about every detail of their lives and art. i dissected an album to figure out through then-day technology what the 411 was on Shawn's home phone number. I three way dialed with my best friend and the gentlemna who answered replied that shawn was away on tour, and wouldnt be back to get my call for awhile. i about died.
oh tales of high school nothing. you make me feel so shy and new all over again.
my first tattoo at 16 was a barcode- kinda like where slipknot had theres, on my back, but much smaller, like the size of a barcode. the numbers are the atomic mass of neon, followed by some lucky digits, in barcode39.
